Carpatho-Ukraine, the small and relatively sparsely populated area has been the source of controversy between six different nations, and has probably experienced a larger number of changes of sovereignty than any other European area. It has also been an independent, stamp-issuing area for two periods. This catalogue presents the exhibit which illustrates the postal history of the area from the beginnings and up to the end of 1945. The development up to 1918 is documented as completely as possible in view of the extreme scarcity of material from this area. Other parts are devoted to the turbulent period after 1918 - in particular the transition periods 1918/20, 1938/39 and 1944/45. It includes rare and unusual items, some of which shed new light on a complicated and incompletely researched history.

Unlike many other postal history collections and exhibits, the most important parts of this exhibit are found in the last parts which cover the period from November 1944 to December 1945. The importance of the documentation of the one-day independence and the transition period around 1939 should also be noted, as well as the period of occupations 1918-20.
