STATES - 1653 lots + black & white photoplates. This very first part of the famous Arthur Hind collection was auctioned by Charles Phillips (former owner of Stanley Gibbons), November 1933 in New York. A splendid offering of United States and Confederate States Stamps and Covers, including many ecxceptional items. Because of the disppointing results, due to the ongoing Great Depression, the British Empire and Foreign Countries collections were sold to H. R. Harmer and auctioned in London (1934-1935) in a series of 11 sales. A very scarce Arthur Hind catalogue, hardbound with the prices realised neatly written on each page. In fine condition U:Z
